WATERLOO ESTATE (in progress)

Overview

This single-family compound is a 16,000 square foot home on a 20,220 square foot lot located in Waterloo Ontario. Situated on a unique pie shaped lot on a cul-de-sac the Taylor Hannah team created a modern interpretation of a courtyard house. While a traditional courtyard style home would be a well defined “U” shape, here the house is a deconstructed “U” with a bridge connection and various wings. The position and shape of the house was decided to look at natural lighting, views and what outdoor spaces could be created. Using a 3D model allowed the freedom to situate each space for optimal lighting and give us an idea of how the space will feel once completed. 3D modelling is the future of architecture and the Taylor Hannah team is at the forefront of the movement capturing their vision and creating perfection as it provides you with complete freedom and accuracy. While the Taylor Hannah team is working on of all aspects of this project, they began with the exterior architecture then working their way inside and to the landscape to have an overall feeling which is carried throughout the property.

Limestone and black metal were the main materials used on the exterior creating a clean, sophisticated and modern feel. Additionally, abstract metal framework was used to add depth to the sleek materials being used. Once materials, details, patterns, and overall theme of the exterior is decided it inspires the design process for the interior. The interior process began with drawing the plans and creating a space for the client’s family to have a house that fulfills all their needs and dreams. The six-bedroom home has a home theatre, wine cellar, squash court, outdoor pool, golf simulator and virtual reality play area providing fun for everyone. Next, the 3D model was used to create a depiction of what the interior spaces will capture. The next steps for this project are to draw elevations and continue the creative process and generating new innovative ideas and drawing different places for inspiration.
