Sep 14th, 2020 This is the perfect treat for this Fall knowledge boost with over 100 Teams in the competition from all over the globe. I am on the jury panel with such a distinguished group including the mayor of the City of Greater Sudbury, Mayor Brian Bigger as well as many colleagues both architects and beyond. What do cities look like in our future and how will we be functioning amongst the built and unbuilt form? The world is changing at a rapid pace as we process these changes we must be deliberate in our choices making liveable and…
Aug 10th, 2020 For this version of the Globe light it pulls the discussion on the sameness for the function and the shape but the colour is different. How a simple different shade can produce such a dramatic difference in a fabulous way. We are celebrating diversity and we are making purposeful decisions on equity. Light us up.
Jul 7th, 2020 Our new crest for our fashion capsule; we are ready to launch and in the process of grading the patterns for production. Designing a crest start with an impression of the past; I looked to Empress Josephine combined with Fred Perry for the historical reference then adding the depth of personal life. The butterflies, flower of peony, icebergs and water mixed with a crown of royalty. Freedom, beauty, strength/subtle and life all in a structured setting. It is powerful with lasting love.
Jun 8th, 2020 Working virtually this week up north meeting with one of my favourite contractors who floated in for lunch. A beautiful blue sky day with a grilled steak and kale salad dockside lunch. The new world of northern paradise and who will be living in the city versus lakeside. What are our new goals for our lives? Rental in city, work virtually and a 4,000 sf cottage that becomes your focal point. Are you drawn lakeside or farm side?
May 7th, 2020 We have pivoted with our Fashion Capsule and going into production with a jacket that can help us help others. The jacket will accommodate sleeves that help protect your hands and provide a fashionable removable mask. We are staying with our dedication to ethically and Canadian made with a portion going to New Start: a charity for mental health and addiction for youth. The jacket is entitled: JOH, Jacket of Hope inspired by a temple I designed in my Architectural school days; it is THA, fashion.
Apr 7th, 2020 I have developed a fashion capsule called KADE that has eleven pieces and truly designed for Superhero Women answering the question what to wear from day to night, our armour. I have collected 24 Superhero women from 20 to 80 years of age rocketing out the vibe of these ethically made in Canada garments. Hudson Bay Company were hosting a private Trunk Show for KADE May 13th, 2020 which has been postponed and we will only come back stronger adapting to our new world. Kindness to All, Dee Dee, KADE.
MAR. 9th, 2020 The inaugural year of the Toronto Art, Architectural & Design Film Festival I spoke with Marianne McKenna and Kate Zeidler about this incredible film, City Dreamers depicting four trailblazing women in design. All these women are in their 90’s practising and living their world of design. Truly inspirational, hats off to Nicole Smith and Dr. Errol Billinkoff for creating this festival and to its aspiring success in the years to come.
Feb 10th, 2020 A collection of fabulous, my ladies from Taylor Hannah Architect with Jan Kath, the man in black with a mustache plus Canadians. This furniture show was in Germany and my girls will travel for great design, people and apparently hanging out on a carpet. Jan Kath carpets are world renown and will be the auction pieces of the future. It is essential that we all travel and soak up the world around us becoming creative citizens of the world. Creative activity of Jan Kath is supreme and contagious.
Jan 13th, 2020 On a cold winter day, we photographed four of our most recently completed projects and we took one of me to share; I love this photo as I stand amongst my work. A limestone pergola is a jewel and the details complete a residence that was built many decades ago. Renovation is never easy, and to bring today to yesteryear is a skill that I have crafted over the years. We continue as a company THA to design of today and of tomorrow.
